Alumni Profiles: James Gilchrist, PhD 2003

James Gilchrist Current Position: Assistant Professor Department of Chemical Engineering Lehigh University Dr. Gilchrist's website

Professor Gilchrist worked with Professor Julio Ottino on mixing and segregation in granular tumblers and received his PhD from Northwestern in 2003. He then was a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the group of Professor Jennifer Lewis. His work there focused on phase behavior and structure of colloidal microsphere-nanoparticle mixtures and flow/mixing in microfluidic devices. He is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Lehigh University where he started in 2004. He served as a teaching apprentice for the course on process control with mentorship provided by Professor Bill Cohen. Jim received his BS degree in chemical engineering from Washington University at St. Louis.
