Alumni Profiles: Tatiana Segura, PhD 2004

Tatiana Segura

Current Position: Assistant Professor Department of Chemical Engineering University of California-Los Angeles Dr. Segura's website

Dr. Tatiana Segura received her PhD from Northwestern in 2004 and worked with Professor Lonnie Shea. She developed novel gene delivery strategies for tissue engineering applications involving the immobilization of DNA complexes to cell-binding surfaces. This strategy enhances gene transfer by reducing mass transfer limitations while providing greater spatial control over where gene delivery occurs. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she is working with Professor Jeffrey Hubbell to develop novel delivery strategies based on amphiphilic polymer for small hydrophilic molecules such as siRNA. She will begin her position as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of California-Los Angeles in 2006. She served as a teaching apprentice for the introductory course on polymers and was mentored by Professor John Torkelson. Tatiana received a BS in bioengineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
