Assistant Chair in Chemical and Biological Engineering at Northwestern University
The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (ChBE) is seeking applications for an Assistant Chair. The Assistant Chair is a non-tenure track faculty member who focuses on administrative tasks and processes to advance the strategic, research and teaching missions of the department. The Assistant Chair will work closely with the Department Chair and other faculty and staff inside and outside the department to best leverage the efforts and the goals of Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, McCormick, and Northwestern. Duties of the Assistant Chair include the following:
Critical activities
- Teaching. Teach and develop both undergraduate and graduate courses.
- MS program. Serve as the coordinator of the departmental Masters program.
- Undergraduate program administration. Potential duties include ABET, assignment of advisors, and undergraduate advising.
- Management of departmental visibility. Responsibilities would include web presence, marketing and publicity.
- Alumni relations. Provide oversight of relations with alumni of the ChBE department
- Industrial and academic relations. Facilitate visibility and interactions with industry and academia.
- Safety. Serve as the coordinator of the departmental safety program.
Other areas of responsibility
- Educational support for research programs. Support and coordinate multiple PI research initiatives, center initiatives and multidisciplinary research programs.
- Other projects as assigned by the Chair, including development of departmental reports and publications
The successful candidate for Assistant Chair will have a PhD in chemical engineering or related field and be an energetic, organized, motivated and vibrant person, interested and capable of furthering the above vision and implementing these new directions.
