Gavin Towler is the Senior Manager of Process Design Development at UOP. UOP is a leading supplier of catalyst, process and equipment technology to the oil, gas and petrochemical industries and is based in Des Plaines, Illinois. Dr. Towler leads a team of design engineers that is accountable for the design and optimization of all new process technologies developed by UOP, from conceptual design through to commercial implementation. He has a broad experience of process & product design, including refining, gas and petrochemical processes, separations, heat integration, refinery optimization, fuel cells and process miniaturization.  Gavin has a B.A. and M.Eng. in chemical engineering from Cambridge University and a Ph.D. from U.C. Berkeley. Before joining UOP he held a faculty position at the University of Manchester. He is an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern University, where he teaches the senior design classes.
