Current Position: Chemical Engineer Stepan Company Northfield, IL

What do you do in your current job? Stepan Company is a producer of surfactants and polymers. My position is on the surfactants side in Personal Care. My responsibilities include formulation of personal care products, such as body washes, conditioners and soap bars, in support of customer requests. I also participate in internal projects focusing on the skin feel provided by surfactants in liquid cleansing systems.

What do you like best about your position? My co-workers are very diverse and knowledgeable. They are wonderful to work with because of their enthusiasm and willingness to help me out..

What is your favorite NU memory? All those late nights in the Chemical Engineering computer lab...

Advice to current students? While the Chemical Engineering curriculum is quite a challenge, its definitely worth it. I recently caught up with two fellow engineers, and all three of us agreed that the experiences we had in school have helped to prepare us for the work we do now. We also feel more prepared for our daily challenges than many of our co-workers appear to be.
